Vocational Training Centre for the Blind and Deaf – Sikri

Sikri works for the education of above all children and teenagers with auditory and visual impairment, partial also with deafblindness or mental disability. The institution is located in the Homa Bay County in a rural area. The training centre has the areas gardening, wood workshop, construction work, rehabilitation, weaving and rehabilitation of deafblind persons. 

Field of work: work with children and teenagers, education

Qualification: Experience in dealing with persons with disability (especially with visual impairment), openness and commitment, independence, intercultural sensibility, disposition to learn Kisuaheli and if required basics of the sign language, basic knowledge in the area of occupational/social, command of English and manual skills advantageous

Function of volunteers: support for example in the fields of eduacation and training arts, craft, gardening etc., work as an assistant in the school or in the free-time-activities, communication with the pedagogical staff, implementation of own ideas in consultation with the local staff
